MUSIC IN PROGRESS
“Pattern Composition and Radio Bending”
Trainers: Massimiliano Viel and Giulio Escalona
The workshop is focused on the idea of pattern and its central role in music practice.
In particular, a usage of pattern will be developed as a device to build performances and realize written compositions within the context of a functional analysis of music arrangement and production.
During the workshop, the participants:
1) will invent and realize pattern structures with body percussion and voice,
2) will develop techniques that can be applied to performance planning as well as to music writing,
3) will create and realize a performance using hacked radios as instruments.
The workshop is intended both for music teachers and musicians that want to learn new tools for creating artistic or pedagogical works. Nevertheless no music reading skill or advanced experience in musical practice is needed so that the workshop is also well suited for non musicians who want to have a basic and yet unconventional experience in music performance.
A specific module of the workshop will explain the basic notions about the rules of “circuit bending”, using the body as a electronic component to intervene on a historical musical instrument: the radio.
All needed tools will be provided by Perypezye Urbane.
